The Princess That Danced With The Wind
Film 2022 Fairy tales often convey great depth and hidden meanings within the presentation of their characters. Archetypes shape the way children see others, their homeland, and themselves. This 15-minute puppet film investigates the expectation of constant emotional work, heteronormativity, and a limited acceptable representation of femininity. These three challenges are represented by characters easily seen in fairytales, the king and queen, a dashing knight, and a fairy godmother. After three scenes of confrontation and three scenes of reflection, Princess Amara decides to cast away the expectations of others, and live within her power at all times. The last lines of the show, spoken by Amara ring; “I know everyone has expectations of me. My parents, the townspeople, Knight, even Fairy Godmother all expect me to act a certain way… to BE a certain way… But.. I want to be the way I want. I have my own expectations for myself. I want to be the kind of Princess that moves with the wind.” If you would like to read a further explanation of the film please direct yourself to my reflection essay. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1sITilYqMgmN5-9yfh53sbDkdzxtx5RzUnbB_vCTKuFs/edit?usp=sharing
